Hotel Design 101: Paris's Hotel Lutetia

The Hotel Lutetia, a distinctive landmark, is located in the vibrant Saint-Germain-des-Prés district of Paris and is the only grand hotel on the Left Bank. Built in 1910, it is one of Paris's most iconic Art Nouveau buildings, with a bold and avant-garde design that transitioned from Art Nouveau to the emerging Art Deco style. The hotel has hosted many famous figures, including Picasso, Charles de Gaulle, Lee Harvey Oswald, André Gide, Peggy Guggenheim, and Josephine Baker. Hotel Lutetia is decorated with works by many great artists, and has undergone various acquisitions and auctions over the centuries. After five years and $234 million in renovations, the hotel reopened in July 2018.
