Czech Republic Olomouc Town Hall Square

Olomouc is located in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. With a population of 100,000, it is the sixth largest city in the Czech Republic and has a history of a thousand years. It was once the capital of the Moravia region. During the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century, it was occupied by the Swedish army for eight years before the capital was moved to Brno. However, Olomouc is still the religious center of Moravia. In the 18th century, it was promoted to the only archbishopric in the Czech Republic. There are many famous cultural relics and buildings on the Town Hall Square. The Holy Trinity Column is 35 meters high. There is a small church on the bottom floor. It is the tallest monument in Central Europe. This Baroque-style monument was built from 1716 to 1754 and has a history of nearly 300 years. Olomulus has 6 Baroque fountains, thanks to the city council. The early fountains provided drinking water for citizens. When most European cities removed the fountains after laying water pipes, the city council decided to keep it as a fire pool for fire prevention. Among the religious buildings, the most famous one is the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas (St. Vaclava), which was built in 1107. The church was rebuilt into a neo-Gothic spire in the 19th century. The tower is 100 meters high.
