Road Trip across the Nullabor

What an amazing experience.... but be warned... go prepared! The 90 mile straight is just a fraction of it and it needs to be driven in the daylight. Make sure that you thoroughly plan your journey, particularly paying attention to refueling! Fuel stations are more expensive than in the major towns and you need to fill up.... there's no avoiding it! Check how much fuel your vehicle tank holds and fill up... fill gerrycans and take what you can reasonably carry. Not only will it help when running low and you need to get to the next station... but you can fill up from cheaper fuel stations. Keep a system going of fill up tank and cans from the cheapest stations... prices can vary from 10cents a litre to more! WATER WATER WATER! I can't stress this enough... you need it not only to drink but to clear your windscreens.... lots of bugs will cloud your view very quickly. TAKE FOOD... Try to avoid fresh foods, particularly fruit, salads etc... you will have it confiscated at the border... also no NUTS AND HONEY! PREPARE TO 'GO WILD' There are no fancy toilet blocks on the Nullabor... so if you are not travelling in a campervan etc.... then be prepared to find a 'SQUAT SPOT' ! It may all sound a bit daunting if you like your creature comforts, but what an experience if you can endure the long days of driving... 7 or 8 hours... There are plenty of designated stopping areas where you can park up for the night as it is not advisable to drive during the hours of darkness.... this is when the wildlife will come out and it would be easy to hit something. ..Sadly, many deceased kangaroos along the roadside and I even saw a dead camel... undoubtedly hit by one of the many trucks (road trains) the are passing by. There are many road trains that will pass you and its etiquette to give an acknowledging wave... this let's other road users (so not only trucks) that all is well! TRAVEL AT THE SPEED LIMIT- overtaking is commonplace but use tge designated overtaking lanes and show consideration for other road users! The long stretches of road aren't all flat and although you can see for miles.... the dips are deceiving ! horizon after horizon can leave you mesmerised especially when there is a sun haze... DON'T be fooled if you can't see any other vehicles around you.... don't be tempted to exceed the speed limit.... local police have been known to set up speed traps and they all don't use marked cars!! I could go on and on about preparation, but just enjoy this epic journey... take in the view... enjoy the beautiful sunsets and stunning sunrises...... look out for the twinkling night skies and try to spot the constellations. .. I was lucky to witness the sight of tge southern cross and the big dipper... A lifetime of memories
