Stepping into the real-life Monument Valley Nizwa is the largest city in the mountainous region of inland Oman and was the capital of the former Imamate of Oman. In history, dynasties have established their own kingdoms here and built their own castles. Oman is known as the country of a thousand castles, and the entire ancient city of Nizwa has more than a dozen large and small ancient castles.
