The best time for delicious clams is around March to early April. Since it was after Golden Week, I expected fewer clams. This day had a significant spring tide. During low tide of the spring tide, the "Tombolo Tidal Flats" appear, allowing you to walk from Higashi Hazu Coast to Maejima Island. The fee was 1,200 yen per person for one plastic bag. We walked to Maejima Island and searched for clams around the island. However, we barely found any, filling only about half of the bag. After about three hours of digging, we returned to the entrance and noticed someone poking the water surface with a spear. Curious, I asked what they were catching—it was hamaguri clams. I immediately started searching in that area and found hamaguri clams! Some were quite large, and I regretted not focusing on hamaguri earlier instead of clams. Next year, I plan to buy a spear and aim for hamaguri clams instead.
