Kegon Falls is situated in the Oku-Nikkō area, where water from Lake Chūzenji cascades down a vertical drop of approximately 97 meters and a width of about 7 meters. The water plunges from the cliff, creating a misty spray that is both grand and mesmerizing. On clear days, a rainbow often appears in the mist in front of the falls, adding a dreamy touch to the magnificent scenery. The formation of this waterfall is closely tied to volcanic activity. Around 20,000 years ago, an eruption of Mount Nantai blocked the river, forming Lake Chūzenji. The lake water found an outlet due to changes in the terrain, flowing along a fault line to create what is now Kegon Falls. The elevator descends about 100 meters from the upper observation deck to the lower viewing platform in just one minute. Standing on the lower platform, the falls cascade right before your eyes, with mist spraying and the thunderous sound of water immersing you in the power of nature. On clear days, you can capture stunning views of the falls with Mount Nantai in the background from various angles. In addition to the main waterfall, there are twelve smaller waterfalls around Kegon Falls, flowing from crevices in the rocks due to the terrain, creating a layered water scene that enhances the area's beauty. The "Kegon Falls Observation Deck" above the falls is the best spot for panoramic photography, offering a clear view of the entire waterfall and the distant Lake Chūzenji. Nearby, there are also cafes and souvenir shops where visitors can enjoy the scenery while sampling local specialties.
