Tamsui is a port town accessible from Taipei by MRT. Located on a hilltop, Fort San Domingo is the oldest Western-style building in Taiwan, built by the Dutch in the 17th century. The name "Hongmao" comes from the way Taiwanese people at the time called the Dutch. This building was later tossed about by various powers of the time, including the Spanish, the Qing Dynasty, and the British Concession, and is a witness to Taiwan's complex colonial history. The red brick and Western-style structure stands out against the sea and blue sky of Tamsui, making it very photogenic. While learning about history, I enjoyed a stroll with an exotic atmosphere, surrounded by the laid-back air of Tamsui.
