Visit Fugui Cape Lighthouse

Completed in 1897, Fugui Cape Lighthouse is located at Fugui Cape in Shimen District, New Taipei City. Originally named Fugui Cape Lighthouse, the tower was initially made of octagonal iron and was converted to an octagonal concrete tower in 1962. The exterior features black and white parallel stripes, making it the northernmost lighthouse in Taiwan. Fugui Cape Lighthouse was the first lighthouse built by the Japanese in Taiwan, constructed to establish submarine cables and navigation equipment between Taiwan and Japan. Due to its unique geographical environment and climate, dense fog often appears in autumn and winter, so a foghorn (Figure 11) was installed in the tower, marking the first appearance of such a navigational aid in Taiwan. On the way to Fugui Cape Lighthouse, you can enjoy the beautiful sea and wind-eroded rocks (Figure 7), and also get a distant view of the stunning lighthouse.
