Visit the One Drop of Water Memorial Hall

The name of the One Drop of Water Memorial Hall originates from the Zen philosophy of the Japanese Zen master 'One Drop of Water,' which emphasizes the importance of cherishing all resources, no matter how insignificant, like a single drop of water. It also commemorates the hard work of all the volunteers involved in the relocation process, who, like tiny drops of water, collectively contributed to the completion of this challenging transnational relocation project. This Japanese traditional house from 1915 symbolizes the friendship between the people of Japan and Taiwan, forged through the Hanshin earthquake in Japan and the 921 earthquake in Taiwan. Thanks to the efforts of many enthusiastic individuals from both countries, the house was dismantled in 2005 and rebuilt in Taiwan, with the reconstruction completed in December 2009 after several relocations. The traditional house, built by Mizukami Kakuharu, features over 600 beams and columns assembled without a single nail, using more than 20 types of joinery techniques, showcasing the pinnacle of wooden architecture.
