Baiyi Nunnery

Baiyi Nunnery in Nanling County is an ancient building with a profound historical and cultural heritage, dating back to the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. Although Baiyi Nunnery Village is not large and was not prominent in history, it carries rich historical stories and cultural values. The origin of Baiyi Nunnery is related to the political and military events in the early Ming Dynasty. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Hu Mei, a historical figure, played an important role in the struggle between Zhu Yuanzhang and Chen Youliang. Hu Mei originally worked for Chen Youliang, but later switched to Zhu Yuanzhang and became an important general of the Ming Dynasty. However, because his power was growing, he aroused Zhu Yuanzhang's suspicion. In the end, Hu Mei was executed for alleged rebellion, and his family was implicated. Some members became nuns to avoid disaster, and Baiyi Nunnery was established. The nuns in the nunnery missed their killed relatives and prayed in white clothes every day, so the place was called Baiyi Nunnery.
