The Nanjing City Wall is located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. It was first built in 1366, the 26th year of the Zhizheng period of the Yuan Dynasty. It is the city wall of the capital of Yingtian Prefecture in the early Ming Dynasty, and the largest existing city wall of a capital city in China. The Nanjing City Wall is the largest brick city wall in the history of Chinese city walls, and one of the longest, largest, and best-preserved brick city walls in the world. It is a model of 14th-century East Asian city wall construction technology. On October 18, 1956, the Nanjing City Wall was announced as the first batch of provincial-level cultural relics protection units in Jiangsu Province by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Committee. On January 13, 1988, the Nanjing City Wall was announced as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. The Nanjing City Wall is 35.267 km long, of which 25.091 km is above ground, and 10.176 km is underground. The total length of the city wall that is basically intact is 22.425 km, and the total length of the city wall remains is 2.666 km. The city wall is 26 meters high, with the narrowest part of the top being 2.6 meters wide and the widest part being 19.75 meters wide. The existing moat is 31.159 km long, with the widest distance between the city wall and the moat being 334 meters and the narrowest being 9 meters.
