Follow me on a weekend trip to Nan'ao Island in Shantou.

Welcome to my travel musings! This time, I made a last-minute decision to go to Shantou for two days, and since I figured I might as well visit Nan'ao Island as well, the timing was perfect! November 28th, Friday: 11:28-17:41 Nanning East - Shantou. There are many shared electric bikes here, making travel very convenient. Dinner: Tianshan Beef Hot Pot, BBQ: Chen Chen Beef Skewers. The beef brisket was amazing! The first time I've ever had such delicious beef 🥩! Dipped in satay sauce, the beef melted in my mouth, filling it with the flavors of beef and satay sauce. It was truly unlike anything I've ever had before, and I'll still crave it... The BBQ was okay, but the wait was an hour and a half. You can get a number for BBQ first, then go for hot pot, and you'll be back in time! 😜 Late-night snack: Chaoshan raw marinated seafood (Jin Ershun, fruit salmon). Stayed near Xiaogongyuan. November 29th, Saturday: In the morning, checked out the Shantou hostel, Xiaogongyuan, and briefly strolled through the retro Nanyang-style street. Lunch was at a rice noodle roll shop we passed on the way back to the hotel. It was surprisingly delicious – the rice noodle rolls were incredibly smooth and tender! Plus, we noticed it was mostly locals eating there! What a pleasant surprise! After lunch, we went back to the hotel to pack our luggage and headed to Nan'ao Island. We took a shared electric scooter to Shantou Station and then the 161 bus. Riding the scooters through the nostalgic streets in the afternoon sunshine felt like stepping back into my childhood – Shantou is such a charming city! The ride took about an hour. We got off at the Visitor Center stop, which was right next to Houzhai Town. Our hotel, Daocheng Xiaozhu, was just 100 meters away; it was easy to find. There was a scooter rental place right outside – 30 yuan for a day, 50 yuan for 24 hours. We arrived at Nan'ao Island at 3:30 pm. The owner suggested we first circle the western peninsula and watch the sunset at Changshanwei Lighthouse. On the way, we passed a rocky area and stopped to take pictures – they turned out incredibly beautiful! You can walk down to the rocks to take photos and get some great close-up shots! Seeing that it was almost time, we headed to Changshanwei Lighthouse. The sunset is early in winter, and it was already starting when we arrived at 5 pm. We snapped a lot of beautiful photos (●v●)📸. After watching the sunset, we returned to Houzhai Town because we found a seafood set meal online: two garlic baby lobsters, typhoon shelter crabs🦀, stir-fried clams, stir-fried beef, garlic ribs, and sea urchin fried rice, all for only 188 yuan😂! It was amazing! After eating, we strolled around and went back to the hotel to rest. Later, we wanted some barbecue, so we searched for a place that served spicy beef, which was surprisingly delicious! Dipping it in the accompanying spicy sauce was so satisfying! We were very satisfied with the food we ate these past two days~ November 30th, Sunday: In the morning, we went to Huang Ji Dim Sum, a local Cantonese dim sum restaurant. After eating, we started exploring the East Peninsula. My favorite spot was the green train at the sunset beach – perfect for taking photos! Our island tour ended at 4 PM. After returning the car and retrieving our stored luggage, we took bus 161 back to Shantou Station. Before we even reached our stop, we saw bus 161 passing by, so we quickly flagged it down, and the driver actually stopped! There were even seats available—how lucky!! Our trip to Nan'ao Island has come to a pleasant end~~~
