Charcoal-grilled eel dishes at Nagoya JR Station, a century-old building

#Sakura2024 🍱: Unagi・Ayu Chihiro Hizawa 〒450-6613 Aichi Prefecture Nagoya City Nakamura District Meieki 1-1-3 JR Gate Tower 13F The second day's itinerary was to go to Takayama and Shirakawa-go with a tour group. After completing the day's itinerary, I looked for the century-old eel rice restaurant recommended by the locals at the JR station. Located on the 13th floor of JR Takashimaya in Nagoya Station, Nishizawa Chi has a history of over 120 years and is famous for its traditional charcoal-grilled eel dishes. This restaurant attracts many local Japanese people to enjoy dinner, and relatively few tourists. I was taken to my seat at the sushi bar by the waiter and was served hot tea and a hot towel. The waiter promptly asked for my order, but as I was very tired it took me a while to decide on my choice. After ordering, I noticed that I was seated so I could secretly observe the chefs working hard in the kitchen to prepare the unagi rice. I ordered an eel rice set meal worth 4290 yen (about HK$231.71), which was 280 grams and only had eel on the surface of the rice. The set meal comes with a small bilingual card (Japanese on the front and English on the back) to teach guests how to enjoy this dish. First, divide the eel rice into four portions. This set meal comes with three different flavors. The first is the original flavor without any seasoning; the second is with green mustard sauce; the third is with seaweed, chopped green onions and tea; the fourth is entirely based on personal preference. The original eel rice sauce is not too sweet and has a slightly charred taste. The meat is tender and there are no bones to bother you. It is definitely what I like. The eel rice with wasabi sauce didn't have much of a special feel and didn't quite hit the spot for me. The eel rice topped with seaweed, chopped green onions and tea has a refreshing taste. Finally, I sprinkled my favorite chopped green onions and seaweed evenly on the eel rice and enjoyed the flavor I liked. The restaurant also offers the option of Hida wagyu beef, but since I had already tasted Hida beef for lunch in Takayama, I chose the unagi rice this time. #JapanTravel #OverseasTravel #Great Places to Visit in Spring in Japan and South Korea
