[Shiga Prefecture] Keisokuji Temple

#DomesticTrip Keisokuji Temple (formerly Hanpukuji Temple) in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, is a Tendai sect temple founded by Gyoki in 735 and rebuilt by Saicho in 799. In the Middle Ages, it flourished as the center of the Hubei Buddhist cultural sphere, but it declined and the main hall was burned down in 1933. Nowadays, it is known as a famous spot for autumn leaves, with about 200 maple trees turning vibrant colors in the fall. The "red carpet" of fallen leaves that spreads along the approach to the temple is particularly spectacular, and many tourists visit every year.
