#Places to visit near Bangkok The Nativity of Our Lady Cathedral is the cathedral of Ratchaburi Diocese (the former area division). It was built in 1890 (in 1890, during the reign of King Rama V) by Father Paulo Salmon, a French missionary, to honor the birth of the Virgin Mary. It is considered a sacred place of worship for Roman Catholics. The highlight of this beautiful Gothic architecture took 6 years to build, using funds from Father Paulo Salmon's relatives and the Paris missionaries. It was built with burnt bricks and the walls were plastered with crushed sugarcane pulp, making the outer walls of the church gray. The construction style of the tall structure, with a pointed tower on top (used as a bell tower), makes it look tall and slender towards the sky. The ceiling, door and window arches, and interior arches have curves that are different from other art forms. They are curves with an intersection at the top. The exterior design of the cathedral is beautifully proportioned. The exterior is beautiful, but the interior is no less beautiful. Decorated with beautiful stained glass from France, it is a highlight.
