[Kanagawa Prefecture/Kainan Shrine] The main shrine of the Miura Peninsula, near the sea

The deity worshipped here is Fujiwara no Sukemitsu, a descendant of Ameno-Koyane no Mikoto. Sukemitsu was demoted due to a dispute over the succession to the throne. On his way to his post in Tsukushi Province, he was caught in a storm and washed ashore on the Miura Peninsula. After his death, he was worshiped by locals for his contributions to the area, such as subduing pirates. This deep shrine's bright red main building really stands out! I was surprised by the number of bell ropes that were donated by fishermen. As it is close to Misaki Port, there is also a tuna sculpture.
