Mt. Tanigawa is located on the border between Minakami Town, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture and Yuzawa Town, Minamiuonuma District, Niigata Prefecture (Joetsu border). The summit is divided into two peaks, "Toma no Mimi" at 1,963 m above sea level and "Oki no Mimi" at 1,977 m above sea level, forming a twin peak. Mt. Tanigawa is one of the most famous peaks in the Kanto region, and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan and the new 100 most famous mountains in Japan.
