Cantera los Arenales

The Quarry of Los Arenales in Mijas is a spectacular place to see. It used to be a quarry years before but the transition to a site with outdoor usage value started around year 2000. There was more than 7000 trees planted at the site around 2007. As a result the old industrial area was transformed to a place where people can go walking and do sports. Many hiking paths of Sierra Mijas start of end there at the parking area of the cantera. There was a huge forest fire in summer 2022 just near the quarry and the surrounding forests were destroyed very largely. Luckily due to firefighters fighting the fire successfully and also the isolated nature of the quarry site, it remained mainly intact. But around the site it’s a different story. Cantera los Arenales is a popular biking site. You can access the site from the road A-368 just about one kilometer before Mijas Pueblo. But the road to the site from costa del sol will be uphill so prepare yourself with drink and enough food. #malaga #costadelsol #spain #naturalwonders
