This over-1,000-year-old weeping cherry tree is one of Japan’s three great sakura, and seeing it in bloom felt like a spiritual experience. The name “Takizakura” means “waterfall cherry tree,” and the way its massive branches cascade with blossoms really does resemble a pink waterfall. I planned my visit to Fukushima around this tree, and it was worth every second. The area around it is carefully preserved and quiet, with benches and gentle walking paths.
