However, the history of Majia Alley is little known, but its future development is of great concern to people. With the expansion of the Ming Dynasty's urban area, the western city wall was extended to Shuncheng Street and Cuihua Street. The western wall of the Southern Song Dynasty was demolished, and the remaining land was used for housing: Sandaoguai Alley was built and collapsed three times; and the original site of today's Majia Alley extended to Shuncheng Street and Sunjia Alley, laying the foundation for the newly built Qing Dynasty Majia Alley. The Mianzhou Prefecture Office of the Qing Dynasty was located at today's Jiefang Street and Hongxing Street. The county records state: In the fifth year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, the governor Liu Yinquan rebuilt the Qing city of Mianzhou. The prefecture officials had both their offices and residential areas, and Majia Alley (including Sunjia Alley) was close to the prefecture office, making it a good location for building many courtyard houses. In the 1960s, I visited the family compound of the district committee secretary Zhang Zixue in Majia Alley, and saw the detailed layout of the courtyard houses: the character '八' shaped wall, dragon gate, high threshold, screen wall, courtyard, large water jar, bonsai, and the structure of one entrance leading to two or three courtyards, with the main hall and wing rooms all made of wood.
