This townhouse project explores the possibilities of building densely and sustainably. The brief sought to transform one suburban block into three homes that maximize economical ESD, showcasing environmentally-friendly design that promotes liveability and affordability in an urban centre. In response, the architects transformed the block into three fossil-fuel free homes, which rely on a mixture of solar panels, battery technology and electric and hedonic heading, to achieve 8+ out of 10-star energy rating. Energy efficiency is partially attributable to the the Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) construction system, which creates a tight building envelop that better insulates and reduces heat loss. Meanwhile the sawtooth profile nods to the post-war warehouse history of the site. The design's success was achieved through a Collaborative Development model by HIP V.
