[Malacca Travel] Encountering Portuguese relics in Malacca 🏰 A Famosa, also known as Porta de Santiago

Malacca was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, revealing its rich history. It's a truly fascinating place to explore. Malacca's A Famosa, a fortress built by the Portuguese in 1511, now only has a single gate, known as Porta de Santiago, remaining. Yet, it still stands as a testament to Malacca's 400-plus years of history. It's a precious relic from the Portuguese colonial era, and the ancient cannons beside the gate give you a sense of history. Interestingly, Porta de Santiago has become a popular tourist destination. When I visited, it was bustling with activity, with performers dressed in dragon-shaped balloon costumes interacting with visitors and taking photos. Across from Porta de Santiago is the Declaration of Independence Memorial, a beautiful building formerly a British residence now a museum.
