Matsushima Tourism: Entsuin Temple

#0yentravelnovember Many people visit Entsu-in Temple as a "temple for matchmaking" and "famous spot for autumn leaves." It is located in Matsushima, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, and is adjacent to Zuigan-ji Temple. Entsu-in Temple is the family temple of Mitsumune, the legitimate grandson of the famous Sengoku daimyo Date Masamune, and features the mausoleum "Sankeiden," designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, where you can see a painting of roses that Hasekura Tsunenaga, a vassal of the Date clan, brought back from Europe. It is also known as the "Rose Temple" because of the rose-themed garden. In addition, the interior of the shrine is painted with patterns such as diamonds, clovers, hearts, and spades, showing Western influences. The gardens are also one of the attractions of this temple. There are four distinctive gardens, including a rock garden. During the autumn leaves season from late October to late November, the temple grounds are decorated with colorful trees and leaves, and when lit up at night, it takes on a different look. The autumn leaves reflected on the water are so beautiful that it feels like you are in another world. There is also a restaurant within the temple grounds where you can enjoy kaiseki cuisine while looking out at the beautiful garden.
