[Shimane Prefecture] Miho Shrine, the main shrine of Ebisu

Miho Shrine stands in the port town of Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, with Miho Bay stretching out before it. As the head shrine of over 3,000 Ebisu shrines across Japan, Miho Shrine is worshipped as the god of "safety at sea, bountiful catches, and prosperous business." In front of the imposing torii gate, a stone pavement that turns pale blue when wet is laid out, creating a nostalgic street known as Blue Stone Paving Street. It just so happened that it was raining when we visited, allowing us to walk on the blue stone pavement. Miho Shrine has a deep connection with music, and votive concerts are sometimes held within the shrine grounds. As Miho Shrine is also the god of "marital harmony, safe childbirth, and prosperous descendants," weddings have also been held within the grounds. Incidentally, Shimane Prefecture is also home to Izumo Taisha, which enshrines Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, and Ebisu, the deity enshrined at Miho Shrine, is related to him in a parent-child relationship. In commemoration of this, it is said that by visiting both shrines together (the "Ebisu Daikoku Double Pilgrimage"), you will receive even stronger blessings for good relationships and prosperity.
