Philippine National Museum of Anthropology Visit Experience

The third stop of my cultural tour in Manila was the National Museum of Anthropology, a great place to delve into the diverse cultures and traditions of the Philippines. Located next to Rizal Park and part of the National Museum system along with the Museum of Fine Arts and Natural History, the building features neoclassical architecture from the colonial era, exuding elegance and solemnity. Best of all, admission is free! The museum's exhibits cover traditional clothing, weaving techniques, religious rituals, tools, and daily life culture of various Filipino ethnic groups. My favorite was the Ifugao terrace culture display, where intricate models and videos provided deeper insights into the wisdom and spirit behind the Banaue Rice Terraces. Another section showcased traditional Filipino boats, such as the balangay, offering a glimpse into the history of early maritime trade and island exchanges. The exhibits highlight the Philippines as a culturally diverse archipelago, with each ethnic group possessing its unique lifestyle and worldview. The overall exhibition design is clear, the artifacts are well-preserved, and the English explanations are very detailed, helping foreign visitors understand the richness and diversity of Filipino culture. This museum is not just a space for quietly displaying artifacts but serves as a window into the historical memories and cultural roots of Filipino ethnic groups.
