Kuthodaw Temple

This Kuthodaw Pagoda is because this is the temple where Mahathera Kanchong, the teacher of Ong Dam or Tong Je, resided here. In 1857, King Mindon ordered the construction of this temple to be a memorial for the 4th Tripitaka Council. He ordered the inscription of the Tripitaka in Pali language, all 84,000 Dhammakkhandhas, on 729 marble slabs, considered the largest Tripitaka in the world.
