Travel Tips You Wish You Knew before Going to Maldives!

I thought it was overrated — like, why is it so damn expensive? But after we got there, it was justified. Logistics, maintenance, water desalination, and the amount of staff needed to keep everything perfect — it all made sense. We even had a guy raking the sand in front of our villa every morning. 1. Best Time to Go The shoulder season — October and April. Yes, rain can still happen, but it’s so much less. During our 5 days, it only rained for 2 hours on the last morning. Shoulder season means discounts everywhere — we got 50% off seaplane transfer, and room rates were a bit cheaper too. The seaplane usually costs around USD 600 per person (return). Plus, fewer guests — it almost feels like you own the island. 2. The Size of the Island So many resorts to choose from — some big, some small. We chose Dusit Thani Maldives because it’s a medium-sized island and you can go around it by bike. It’s kinda fun. My daughter has never been this active her whole life — biking, swimming, snorkeling, repeat. We all had a good night’s sleep every day. 3. Go All-Inclusive If you like to drink, or at least eat three meals a day, go all-inclusive. Food and drinks there are crazy expensive — and everything comes with 10% service charge and 17% government tax. For example, a can of Coke costs USD 6 (before taxes), and a main meal around USD 40. 4. Bring USD Big resorts and restaurants in Malé accept USD, and supermarkets take cards. No need to withdraw cash or exchange money. Mostly, you’ll use USD for tipping. 5. Location Matters Choose a resort that’s a bit farther from Malé if you want the best atoll and reef experience. Or better yet, take a look at an atoll map before booking. You’ll notice some resorts are built very close to each other or right next to inhabited islands. Nothing wrong with that, but if you want to feel real privacy and untouched ocean views, distance makes all the difference. #maldives #travel #travelgram #jalanjalan #familytravel
