Wat Prathat Doi Prachan

Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan Located in Pa Tan Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, Lampang Province History of Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan is a temple located on the top of Doi Phra Chan. Originally, there were only broken brick ruins on the top of the mountain, which the villagers believed was sacred and full of mysterious stories. Then, in 1953, Phra Khru Panya Wutthikun (Luang Pho Panya Khanthiyo), the former abbot of Wat Nakhot Luang, restored the chedi and improved the place for the chedi worship ceremony, which led to the tradition of climbing Doi Phra Chan to worship the chedi once a year. After that, there was another major renovation of Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan by Phra Phonchai Akkhawangso, the abbot of Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan, in 2008, because the original building had been abandoned for many years, until it became the beautiful temple it is today. The Daibutsu Buddha statue is a replica of the Daibutsu Buddha statue at Kotoku Temple in Kamakura, Japan. Standing tall amidst the lush green forest, the surrounding area is decorated with hanging lanterns, ema (wishing signs) and torii gates that give off a very Japanese atmosphere. Doi Phra Chan Climbing Tradition Another important tradition that takes place at Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan is the Doi Phra Chan Climbing Tradition, held annually on the 8th waxing moon of the 7th month, or around May. Buddhists from Tambon Pa Tan and nearby tambons will walk up the mountain to pay homage to the chedi on Doi Phra Chan and pay homage to the chedi. There will also be rockets set off to worship the chedi and a rocket competition. This tradition has continued to the present day. Open to tourists every day from 06.00-16.30 hrs. #VisitLampang
