The building that serves as the tourist center, the "House of the Bakery," is property of the Spanish royal family and has 17th-century frescoes on its walls. During every National Day parade, people would cross the square from the west gate to the east, while members of the royal family would wave to them from the upper floors. In the center of the square is the equestrian statue of King Philip III, the builder, looking heroic under the blue sky and white clouds. Exiting the west gate of the square is the bustling Mercado de San Miguel, which sells a variety of hams, cheeses, seafood, desserts, etc., which are very tempting. The price is a bit high, but worth a try. Finally, we walked to the Palacio Real de Madrid, the Royal Palace of Madrid, which consists of 3,418 rooms, an armory, gardens, and the Basilica of Our Lady. It is the third largest royal palace in Europe. The palace looks majestic when viewed from the lower gardens. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I was unable to go in and take a look. At the end of the Moorish Garden is the Plaza de Espana, which houses a statue of Cervantes and his characters Don Quixote and Sancho. Later, we visited the Bernabeu Stadium, the home stadium of Real Madrid, and went shopping at the high-end department store Ingles. The most amazing thing was seeing the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas, a neo-Mudéjar bullring, and the Masjid, a Muslim center, where the influence of the eight hundred years of Moorish rule was evident, which is a characteristic of Spain. The water quality in Madrid is very good, the climate is relatively dry, the agricultural products are abundant and fresh, and the Iberian sliced ​​ham is very delicious.
