Cebu is generally safe and violent crime, such as muggings is rare, but be careful when walking around the city at night. A lone tourist walking around dark roads late at night can be an easy target for someone to make a quick buck. Being the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines, Cebu has preserved its Spanish influence as evident in the establishment of Catholicism and the remains of some Spanish structures. Some of the most interesting heritage sites that are worth visiting are Magellan's Cross, Mactan Shrine, and Fort San Pedro. Cebu has only 2 seasons and the weather remains warm and cool all year round. Similar to the rest of the Philippines, the best time to visit Cebu is between January and April.
