#MacauAttractions The predecessor of the Ho Tung Library was the private villa of Ho Tung, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist in Hong Kong and Macau. After Ho Tung passed away in 1956, his family donated the property and HK$25,000 for purchasing books to the Macau government in accordance with his will to establish a public library to collect Chinese books. On August 1, 1958, the Ho Tung Library was officially opened to the public and became the largest Chinese public library in Macau.
