Originally known as the Garden Mansion, this historic site is located at No. 13, Praça de Luís de Camões, in the St. Anthony Parish. Built in the 1770s, it is a classic example of garden-style residences in Macau. The building’s pink exterior, stone steps, cobblestone paths, and large glass windows exude a romantic Portuguese charm. Its history is equally fascinating. Initially, it was the villa of the wealthy tycoon Belira, and later changed hands several times. From the 1960s to the 1980s, it served as the James Museum, and since 1989, it has been the headquarters of the Oriental Foundation. Stepping into the site, you’ll find a shimmering pool in front of the house and a lush garden behind, centered around a small artificial lake. The greenery and floral scents create a serene atmosphere. Inside, the space has been transformed into an exhibition area, featuring exquisite Corinthian-style classical columns and intricately carved green brick “door guardians,” blending history and art seamlessly.
