#MacauAttractions The Macau Fortress is located on the top of Mount Fortress (also known as Fortress Hill) in the center of the Macau Peninsula. It is also known as St. Paul's Fortress or the Ruins of St. Paul's Fortress. It is one of the main scenic spots and historical sites in Macau. The Macau Fort was built in 1617 during the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Ming Dynasty to defend against pirates and was later converted into a military facility. There are giant steel cannons placed around the fort. Although the ancient cannons have lost their military function today, they have become ancient cultural relics and historical witnesses of Macau. The top floor of the Macau Fortress is the Macau Fortress Garden, where you can overlook 360-degree scenery of Macau. The view and landscape are very good and it is definitely worth a visit.
