Lugano, a Swiss border city

Lugano is a city and municipality in Switzerland and is part of the Lugano district in the canton of Ticino. It is the largest city in the canton of Ticino and in the Italian-speaking part of southern Switzerland. The city is located at the widest part of Lake Lugano and, together with the neighboring town of Paradiso, occupies the entire Bay of Lugano. The Lugano urban area includes a larger area on both sides of the lake, with many isolated villages, and the city borders Italy to the west and east. The Lugano region is embraced by the Alps and extends over much of the Sottocineri region, the southernmost part of the canton of Ticino and Switzerland. Lugano can be seen from Italy on the hill directly opposite the city center and from the World Heritage Site of Mount San Ponte to the west.
