[Italy, Lucca] Basilica of San Frediano

#FreeHotelStay The Basilica of San Frediano is one of the three most famous churches in Lucca. The façade (front part) of this church is decorated with a magnificent Byzantine mosaic of "The Ascension of Christ". Wow, it's so beautiful! I've been to churches in Italy, but this is the first time I've seen a mosaic used on a façade like this. It's beautiful to see it sparkling in the sunlight against the blue sky. When you go inside, the interior of the church is very simple and typical Romanesque style. I think it's also rare to see frescoes on the columns. On the back of the façade, there are frescoes by 16th century Bolognese artist Amico Aspertini, "Madonna and Child on the Throne with Four Saints (St. John the Baptist, St. Agatha, St. Margaret, St. Sebastian)" and "Mary's Visit to Elizabeth". The interior of the church is simple, so the frescoes look gorgeous. There are several small chapels on the left and right of the church, and the contrast is interesting, as they are much more dazzling and gorgeous than the church itself.
