Wat Saensukharam, Luang Prabang

#VisitLaos Wat Saensukharam, Luang Prabang Wat Saensukharam is located on Xieng Thong Road in the city center, near Wat Song, to the southwest. According to history, the name of the temple comes from 100,000 kip donated as initial capital for construction after Luang Prabang separated from Vientiane 11 years ago. The highlight of Wat Saensukharam is the large standing Buddha statue, the only one in Luang Prabang, with beautiful, smooth hands and a replica of the Buddha's footprint on the side of the standing Buddha hall. The ordination hall is beautifully lacquered and gilded, in the style of central Luang Prabang, as can be seen from the octagonal pillars and lotus petal-shaped pillar spires. The interior walls of the ordination hall are decorated with gold paintings on a red background. In the center is the principal Buddha statue or Phra Ong Luang. This is an ancient temple built after Luang Prabang separated from Vientiane and was a different kingdom before that. There was an old temple in the area where Wat Saensukharam was built in the 15th century, making this temple quite beautiful and interesting.
