Longquan City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province and managed by Lishui City, is located in the southwestern part of Zhejiang Province. It is bordered by Yunhe County and Jingning She Autonomous County to the east, Qingyuan County to the south, Suichang County and Songyang County to the north, and Pucheng County of Nanping City, Fujian Province to the west; it is a major passageway into Jiangxi and Fujian from Zhejiang Province, known as the 'Ou-Wu Eight Min Thoroughfare' and 'Post Horse Essential Path, Throat of Merchants and Travelers,' and has always been a commercial town for the neighboring areas of Zhejiang, Fujian, and Jiangxi. The total area is 3059 square kilometers. Longquan City is a national historical and cultural city. In the second year of Qianyuan of the Tang Dynasty (759 AD), Longquan County was established. During the Spring and Autumn period, Ou Yezi forged three treasured swords here, one of which was called 'Longyuan,' hence the name. Later, to avoid the taboo of the name of Emperor Gaozu of Tang, Li Yuan, Longyuan Township was changed to Longquan Township. In December 1990, the county was abolished and replaced by a county-level city. Longquan City is known as the capital of celadon and the land of treasured swords, as well as the birthplace of world shiitake mushroom cultivation and the first township of Ganoderma lucidum in China. Longquan swords are known as the 'leader among swords.' Longquan celadon began in the Three Kingdoms and Jin dynasties, with 'Ge Kiln' being one of the five famous kilns of the Song Dynasty. In 2009, the traditional firing techniques of Longquan celadon were inscribed on the 'Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.' Longquan has been awarded the titles of National Sanitary City, National Ecological Demonstration Zone, National Forest City, Zhejiang Provincial Ecological City, and Zhejiang Provincial Garden City, and is known as 'Good Longquan among the ten counties of Chuzhou.'
