A must-see waterfall across two countries: Victoria Falls

When traveling to Zimbabwe, the first choice city may be Victoria Falls, a city named after the waterfall. Victoria Falls is located in the middle reaches of the Zambezi River in Africa, on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is one of the three largest waterfalls in the world. It is about 1.7 kilometers wide and about 108 meters high. In 1855, Scottish explorer David Livingstone became the first European to see Victoria Falls and named it after Queen Victoria. The locals call it Mosi-oa Tunya (which means "the smoke that thunders" in the Tokalayatunga language). Victoria Falls is also part of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia and Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe. In 1989, UNESCO listed Victoria Falls and the two national parks as World Heritage Sites. They are one of southern Africa's top tourist attractions. Just above the first section of the canyon, almost perpendicular to the waterfall, is a railway bridge, the Victoria Bridge. It is the only bridge across the Zambezi River and was inaugurated in April 1905. The bridge spans 250 meters, with the largest arch spanning 150 meters. When the water level is low, the distance between the water surface and the bridge deck is 125 meters. Originally it was to form part of Cecil Rhodes' planned Cape of Good Hope-Cairo railway, and today there are regular trains connecting Victoria Falls, Livingstone and Bulawayo, and Livingstone with Lusaka. Travel tips: Compared with the Zimbabwe section and the Zambia section, the water volume of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is larger. If you live in Zimbabwe and come back after visiting the Zambian section of the waterfall, you must find out the number of entries when you apply for a visa upon arrival!
