Popular Monastery in Lisbon

Take Tram Line 15 to alight at Mosteiro Jeronimos and you will see the Monastery. The cloisters are magnificent, with each column differently carved with coils of rope, sea monsters, and other sea motifs, evocative of that time of world exploration at sea. The church interior is spacious with octagonal piers decorated with reliefs, and outside the garden laid out in 1940 consisting of hedges cut in the shape of various municipal coats of arms of Portugal. The Jeronimos Monastery is one of the most visited sites in Lisbon, and it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
