Longquan Temple in Lingtai

Longquan Temple is located in Kangjiagou Village on the west bank of Pu River in Zhongtai Town, Pingliang, Lingtai. The temple is 60 meters long from east to west, 40 meters wide from north to south, and covers an area of 2400 square meters. Longquan Temple is a remnant of a temple from the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period within the territory of Lingtai County. Its Qing Dynasty buildings have been destroyed, and there are currently five buildings from the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936), along with one stele of renovation records. In order, they are the Zixian Hall, Bodhisattva Hall, Linggong Hall, Black Tiger Hall, and the Opera Tower, all of which are single-eave hip-roofed structures made of earth and wood. The Zixian Hall's front side enshrines the Flower-Inserting Holy Mother, the Nine Heavens Holy Mother, and the Jiangyuan Holy Mother, while the north side enshrines the 'Three Great Whites.' The Bodhisattva Hall enshrines statues of Guanyin, Samantabhadra, Manjushri Bodhisattvas, and two Dharmapala deities. The inner walls of the Zixian Hall and Bodhisattva Hall are both adorned with colorful paintings of human stories. The original statues in the halls have been destroyed, and the current statues were sculpted in the 1980s, while the murals were painted during the Republic of China period.
