The German town of Limburg an der Lahn

Limburg an der Lahn is a district town in the Limburg-Weilburg district of Central Hesse. With about 35,000 inhabitants, it is the most populous town in the district. When the town was building the Limburger Landhal Bridge, a small village dating back to the Neolithic Age was discovered. Analysis of jar fragments showed that it could be traced back to around 5000 BC. Two Roman military camps from the time of Emperor Augustus were also discovered on a total of 14 hectares of land. In May 1289, a devastating city fire destroyed much of Limburg's city center, but it was immediately rebuilt. One of the houses built was Römer 2-4-6, which today is probably the oldest independent building in Limburg. However, the more historic St. George's Cathedral (cover) was not destroyed by the fire because it is located on limestone.
