A surprise stop on your trip: Lille, France

Lille was not originally on my travel itinerary. On the night I arrived, I went out to find some food and explore the city, and was completely surprised by the lively and unique city that greeted me. It was nothing like the "industrial city" I had heard about! The city center was beautiful and lively at night, and it was no wonder that Lille was named the European Capital of Culture in 2004. I found a seat outside a restaurant next to the square for dinner, just so I could enjoy the beautiful night view. I ordered a burger, and was surprised by the huge portion of delicious fries that came with it. It was almost enough for two dinners! I later learned that Lille is the birthplace of fries, so no wonder they were so good! I know that Lille is not on the list of regular travel destinations for Chinese tourists. But it is actually not far from Bruges, a popular European tourist destination, and within a 60 km radius of Lille, there are as many as 10 World Heritage Sites. The abundance of tourist resources is amazing. Lille is especially suitable for self-driving tours, and you can visit multiple cities in one day. If you are traveling to Belgium or northern France, consider adding Lille to your itinerary.
