1️⃣ 🛫 Fly to Lhasa: After landing, exit the airport and take the airport shuttle bus from the left side of the exit. Simply scan the QR code on the wall to buy your ticket. It’s recommended to sit on the right side by the window to enjoy the beautiful autumn scenery. The ride takes about an hour. If your hotel is far from the drop-off point, take a taxi—don’t push yourself. The first day in Lhasa can be a bit hard to adjust to. 2️⃣ Accommodation: Recommended to stay in the Never Night City area, just a few hundred meters from the Potala Palace, Barkhor Street, and Jokhang Temple. Note: Choose a hotel with diffuse oxygen supply and nasal oxygen supply to effectively relieve altitude sickness. Rest a bit at the hotel in the evening, and if you feel well, you can go to the hotel rooftop to see the Potala Palace night view. 3️⃣ The Potala Palace has steep slopes and many stairs, so remember to bring an oxygen bottle and energy snacks. The guided tour lasts about two hours, and you’ll feel quite tired afterward. If you have decent stamina, you can visit the Yak Yogurt Shop and the Tibet in the Sky themed post office next to the Potala Palace. 4️⃣ 📍 Yamdrok Lake: One of Tibet’s three sacred lakes, Yamdrok Lake means “turquoise jade-like lake” in Tibetan. Driving around the lake, whether self-driving or by car, you’ll be amazed by the lake from various angles again and again. Namtso Lake and Nala Gen Mountain Pass are at higher altitudes and require about a two-kilometer hike, with a long round-trip drive. Be sure to bring enough oxygen bottles and motion sickness medicine. I used up two oxygen bottles and still felt it wasn’t enough. 5️⃣ Watch the Debate at Sera Monastery: Timing is key! ❗️ Be sure to go Monday to Saturday afternoon! The famous debate at Sera Monastery usually starts at 3 PM (not held on Sundays or major religious holidays). 🤝 It’s recommended to arrive around 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM to buy tickets and walk slowly to the debate area. 6️⃣ Be sure to take the Qinghai-Tibet Railway train at least once when entering or leaving Tibet! I took the train when leaving. In winter, sunset in Tibet is around 7 PM, and at that time the train passes through the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, where you can see the golden sunlight on the peaks and the moon rising behind the mountains. It’s very beautiful, and if you’re lucky, you might even see Tibetan wild donkeys. ❣️ Most importantly, bring a selfie stick that can stand steadily on the ground.
