The Potala Palace in Tibet

The Potala Palace, extending towards the sky, resembles a palace that reaches the heavens, as if it could communicate with the deities. Constructed on top of the Red Hill, it integrates seamlessly with the mountain, standing out prominently in the flat Lhasa city area. Within it, the Red Palace is located at the center and the summit of the Potala Palace, with its highest point being 117m above the ground. It was built not only for its excellent defensive properties but also because height represents sanctity. In Tibetan, 'Potala' means the residence of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. It is the highest ancient palace in the world. Some say the Potala Palace was originally a palace in the heavens, which descended onto Mount Marpori to fulfill our faith.
