Yinggehai Salt Field, the Sky Mirror in the Southernmost Part of China

Yinggehai Salt Field Hainan Yinggehai Salt Field is located in Ledong County, facing the sea and backed by the Jianfengling forest area. It is a tidal flat area of ​​more than 30 square kilometers. The salt fields are crisscrossed and orderly, and the salt fields are sparkling, creating a very beautiful scene. Yinggehai Salt Field is one of the major salt fields in China. It is one of the saltiest sea areas in the world after the Dead Sea and the Red Sea and is known as the "Sea of ​​Bitterness". During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Japan occupied Hainan Island and dreamed of building "the largest salt field in East Asia" in Yinggehai. It invested a lot of manpower and material resources, but was hit by the anti-Japanese forces and its fantasy was shattered. In the late 1940s, the Kuomintang salt administration organized the exploration records and development plans left by the Japanese and prepared to continue building salt fields in Yinggehai. However, the plan was not implemented and the entire island of Hainan was liberated. The construction of the salt field in New China began in the spring of 1958. More than 5,000 People's Liberation Army soldiers transferred to Yinggehai, and local migrant workers also joined the construction team. During this passionate period, various large and small "battles" and labor competitions were carried out. When Guo Moruo visited Yinggehai in 1962, he wrote: "Ten thousand hectares of salt fields, Yinggehai is a paradise of eternal spring all year round." The sea salt production process is very interesting. At high tide, seawater flows into the storage lake from the tidal gate, passes through the pumping station, and then flows through the primary, secondary and high-level evaporation pools. The seawater concentration increases step by step and becomes brine. The brine begins to crystallize after entering the crystallization area. At present, the salt field is free to visit and parking is convenient. Entering the salt field, there is a sea salt culture museum which is worth visiting. There is an old warehouse next to it. The roof has been removed, but the stone walls, columns and vaults still stand solidly. To the west of the old warehouse, there is a section of rusty railroad tracks with an old train carriage parked on it, which is very nice for taking photos.
