Trip to Laos 4: Nam Ngum Lake, the "Sea" in the Hearts of Laotians

Laos is a typical landlocked country, surrounded by Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and China. Nam Ngum Lake is the largest artificial lake in Laos, originally called the Nam Ngum Reservoir. With over 300 islands, it is also known as the "Thousand Island Lake." Its vast water area has earned it the affectionate nickname "Laotian Sea" among the locals. On this sunny winter day, I visited the "Laotian Sea"—Nam Ngum Lake. The enchanting scenery captivated me instantly. From a distance, the mountains embrace the water, and the water encircles the mountains, creating a harmonious landscape. The still water surface is unruffled, and the blooming flowers along the shore adorn Nam Ngum Lake with vibrant colors. Standing by the water, I gazed at the lush mountains and clear waters against the blue sky, marveling at their beauty. The fragrance of the flowers filled the air, and the mountains, waters, flowers, and grass brought me joy and happiness. I indulged in the tranquil foreign natural scenery, feeling so content that I didn't want to leave. Even after returning to the tour bus, my heart lingered in the beauty of the "Laotian Sea."
