Wat Phra Chedi Sawlang

1. Group of 20 Chedi (Saw Lang) The temple's name comes from its most striking physical feature: a group of 20 chedis arranged in the center of the temple. The word "Saw" in Northern dialect means "twenty," while "lang" means "body" (of a chedi). Legend has it that two Arahants visited this area and offered a strand of the Buddha's hair to King Milindra to enshrine in 20 chedis (one strand each). Paying homage and counting the 20 chedis is considered highly auspicious. Architecture: Most of the chedis are in a blend of Lanna and Burmese styles, with the principal chedi at the center and surrounding smaller chedis. 2. Phra Saen Sae Thongkham This temple houses the "Phra Saen Sae Thongkham," a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture, made of 180-year-old bronze. Constructed of pure gold, weighing over 100 baht and two salung (approximately 95.5 baht), this Buddha image features a beautiful blend of Lanna and Ayutthaya styles. Importance: The Golden Phra Saen Sae was discovered by accident by villagers in 1983 and has been registered as a national antiquity. It is a significant golden Buddha image, a popular destination for tourists and Buddhists to worship for good fortune.
