The Origin of Higashiyama Culture – Ginkakuji Temple

"Ginkaku-ji Temple" is definitely one of the most familiar attractions in Kyoto and is often mentioned in the same breath as "Kinkaku-ji Temple". The official name of "Ginkakuji" is "Jishoji". One theory is that the temple is not covered with silver foil because of financial constraints, while another theory is that there was no plan to use silver foil from the beginning of its design. However, the actual reason is unknown. Although there is no silver foil on it, it does not detract from its beauty. The Silver Pavilion can be divided into two areas, the mountain and the foot of the mountain. The garden at the foot of the mountain is centered on the Kinkyō Pond. In addition to the Guanyin Hall, the Silver Sand Beach and the Moon-facing Platform by the pond are also eye-catching. From the garden, you can walk along the mountain path to the observation deck, where you can have a panoramic view of the temple grounds. The underground floor is a building similar to a Japanese-style room, while the second floor adopts a temple structure, which is very special. The Kinkakuji Temple is a representative of the gorgeous Kitayama culture, while the Ginkakuji Temple is a representative of the simple and tranquil Higashiyama culture.
