Kyoto: Higashiyama - A Must-Visit Tendon Restaurant to Enjoy the Essence of Kyoto

I stumbled upon this restaurant online while looking for Kyoto-style Japanese cuisine. It seems that the restaurant was originally located near Kodaiji Temple. The meals are prepared by the owner alone, and the service was managed by a single woman. I had called in the morning to inquire about the lunch hours, so they were able to accommodate us around 1 PM. It appears that they sometimes shorten the lunch service for afternoon group reservations due to preparation needs. For the meal, I ordered the shrimp and conger eel tendon. They offered both a combined tendon bowl and a separated style with tempura and rice, so I chose the latter. The tempura was crispy, and the shrimp was plump and full. The vegetables were also flavorful and delicious. The tentsuyu sauce was on the sweeter side, which paired perfectly with the pickles for a change of taste. The tamagoyaki had a nice texture and was flavorful with the dashi, which was also delicious. For a palate cleanser, we were served a homemade strawberry sherbet at the end. The shape of the tray that held the plate and spoon was unique, and I found myself wanting one, haha. The prices for the meals are not exactly cheap, but I was impressed with the quality of the dishes, which were filled with the owner's love.
