[Kyoto] A very popular abandoned school cafe in Kyotanba! "Pandozo Cafe"

Located in Kyotanba-cho on the outskirts of Kyoto City, Shitsumi Shorakuko is the former Shitsumi Elementary School, which sadly closed at the end of March 2011. Even after it was closed, the strong wishes of the local residents allowed the school building to remain open, and it has been reborn as a community space for the area. Everything about the old wooden school building is Showa retro, and exudes sepia-toned nostalgia. Pandozo Cafe is an Italian cafe located in such an abandoned school building. The old home economics kitchen has been renovated and a full-scale pizza oven has been installed. The blackboard and desks are still there, but it is now a very popular pizza restaurant with long lines at lunchtime, even though it is small. The school attendance book familiar to Japanese people has been transformed into a menu. All of the freshly baked pizzas made with local ingredients are exquisite. In particular, the "Crimame Formaggi", which is luxuriously topped with chestnuts and black beans, a specialty of Kyotanba, and the "Ortolana", which uses plenty of colorful seasonal vegetables, were so delicious that I couldn't help but groan!
